Some true things I'd like to tell

Dear Diary, I woke up at 6:30 this morning, raised my head to turn off the alarm on my iPhone (a little ethereal piano clip I took from Angelica by Lamb, apparently stolen from Debussy), saw a display of gold and orange streaks across the eastern sky over the tall buildings along the Charles. I thought of getting up. I looked at my phone and a text had come in while I was sleeping - a friend still in college asking me if I was watching the meteor shower. I missed it. I missed it when I was in college, too, even though I always sorta remembered when it was coming. I fell back on the pillow. When I got up an hour later, I did a sun salutation yoga series for the first time. Sunshine was glowing in my windows. It seemed the thing to do.

You look so human, just like me

Ho dudes...  I just wished a co-worker Happy Friday and she reminded me, Happy Friday the 13th!

DUN-DUN-DUNNNNN!!!!

Aha.  Here I thought this was just my monthly clumsy day, but now I see it's much more serious than that.

Let me tell you the story of how I came to dread Friday the 13th.

You don't go out looking for a job dressed like that? On a weekday?

In this day and age, we all have impossible To Do lists, right? At any given moment, I have - no exaggeration - 50 things I should be doing, which means that even if I'm doing something productive (and chances are not as good as one would hope) there are always 49 other things I'm neglecting. Always.

Gratitude List for November

(I will do better at keeping up my blog... I will do better at keeping up my blog... I will do better at keeping up my blog...)

1. I LOVE New England in the fall. My iPhone is on the fritz and I lost my camera battery charger at Arlene's Grocery in NYC (I think?) so I have no pictures of my own to show you of the incredible colors I try to soak up every day on my walk to and from work, but I actually found myself getting teary-eyed over the combined color of some pink and orange chrysanthemums the other morning. Laugh if you will, but I'm so grateful that I'm still able to be so overwhelmed by simple, natural beauty. (And to find it in the city.)

2. I've said it before and I'll say it again.

After looking through some old pictures

The idea behind the title (of This Blue Heaven's debut album) Quicksandglass was . . . well, it was layered, so I should say one idea behind it had to do with struggling against the passage of time. The futility of that struggle. The desire and pain involved in letting go.

Loving this new track from Rupa & the April Fishes

when life hands you big mysteries---i have found it's best if i don't complain and don't explain. just open another door in my mind, roll with it, blame it on the moon and carry on.

This blue thankfulness (and linkiness)

Hooray for:

Rachael the nomad, who bought me a shot.

Bandmates that help me straighten my hair.

MAZ, manager extraordinaire, who grooved up front.

James, who turned 31 (I got proof).

Joe, who held so tenaciously to his claim that our show beat Paul McCartney's, all the way to the hilarious, logic-defying end.

Anngelle, who put the show in her FB picks of the week.

David Starbuckle and Dr. Rock for spinning Bliss on Bunkradio's The Universe and putting our video out there along with all kinds of awesome unsigned rock.

Aloud, The Lights Out & The Divorced, great musicians getting their great music into the world one show at a time. It was a blast sharing the stage.

New York. For being New York. And for being the place I'm headed this weekend (Trash Bar in Brooklyn Friday night & Arlene's on the lower east side on Saturday).

My band. For being This Blue Heaven.

And finally, John Hughes, who made me crack up and cry, both - and who originally made sure Duckie got the girl, but Molly Ringwald just had to have her Cinderella ending, even though it meant Andrew McCarthy had to come back from shooting another film, for which he'd shaved his head, and wear that truly horrible wig.

Fre-ee Bli-iss!

Ladies and gentlemen, we made a video. Or, rather, my favorite director Chris Gaines made a video of Bliss! Anyways, it made us so happy, we've decided to give it away -- ALONG WITH the mp3... just for you!

As my good friends back in Kentucky would say: clicky clicky! (Download should start automatically when you click on the link above. If not, right-click on it and choose Save As (Windows) or Download Linked File (Mac).)

P.S. Bonass features: Find Waldo, and count how many times GP appears to bop KP on the head with the guitar neck!

P.P.S. Thank GOD I cut my bangs short. Just sayin'.

I was backwards in the rain

It's late. Not as late in Washington state as it is in Boston, but still. Late enough that all the stars and in fact the broad stripe of the Milky Way itself is just visible. The moon is almost full, which is always -- call me superstitious -- a sign of something. Something is going to happen. Something is going to change.
